To date, Neuropsychoanalysis might be seen as a rather desexualized body of theories, studies and methods: sexual topics pop up here and there, but not in any systematic way that recognizes sexuality as a constitutive foundation of the human condition. This congress aims to rectify this impression by directing our attention to questions like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>What is <strong>sex<\/strong>? What is libido? What is an erogenous zone?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Do we have to reconsider the Freudian notion of <strong>infantile sexuality<\/strong>?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What about <strong>affect, emotion and drive<\/strong> in the sexual act and in sexuality?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Are we <strong>enslaved<\/strong> to love? What is the role played by reward in love, addiction or sex?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What can we say about the role of the <strong>object<\/strong> in the sexual act and in sexuality: partial, transitional, sublime, exquisite \u2013 including lost objects?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Are there specific (neuroscientific, conceptual, clinical) reasons to distinguish <strong>feminine<\/strong> enjoyment?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The congress will take inspiration from Freud\u2019s notion of the \u201cexperience of satisfaction\u201d as well as from various post-Freudian notions, such as the prominent place given by Lacan to enjoyment (<em>Jouissance<\/em>) in relation to human subjectivity. Thus, we might ask:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Is Freud\u2019s interpretation of the <strong>experience of satisfaction <\/strong>still tenable, more than a century later? Do we need to revisit the relation between needs, libido, drive and desire in light of current neuroscientific findings?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What about the relation between <strong>Freud\u2019s repetition compulsion and Lacan\u2019s Jouissance<\/strong> in the light of modern neurosciences?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How do we conceive of <strong>death drive<\/strong> in this discussion?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What (neuroscientific) grounds are there for the introduction of <strong>multiple forms of enjoyment<\/strong>, as Lacan\u2019s work suggests: phallic enjoyment, \u201cautre jouissance\u201d, surplus enjoyment (\u201cplus-d\u00e9jouir\u201d)?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What about the idea of a sexual relationship, of which Lacan states that there is no such thing (\u201c<strong>Il n\u2019y a pas de rapport sexuel<\/strong>\u201d)?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The congress will take place at the Universit\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) \/ Solbosch Campus, Brussels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Organizing Committee<\/strong>: Ariane Bazan, Gertrudis van de Vijver, Lisa Ouss, Sandrine Detandt, Giulia Olyff, \u00a0Jasper Feyaerts, Marieke van Dam and Davy Blekman, <em>working with<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The International NPSA Congress Committee<\/strong>: Nicolai Axmacher, Anna Chapman, Mark Solms, Oliver Turnbull, Maggie Zellner and Paula Barkay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the standing of Freudian theory in the light of modern neuroscience when it comes to drives, pleasure, enjoyment and sex?
